The EU has opted for the development of renewable hydrogen to decarbonise its hydrogen consumption, but the high cost compared to fossil hydrogen is hindering the development of a sector that could yield drastic reductions in CO2 emissions. Hence, EDF among other players is advocating for the recognition, alongside renewable hydrogen, of low-carbon hydrogen made from electricity from the grid or by means of a nuclear PPA or a direct nuclear connection.
