Destination sustainable aviation

The aviation sector plays a key role in the EU economy, fostering innovation and providing two million direct jobs in the European Union and almost 10 million indirect jobs, including in the supply chain and in tourism.

But air transport also raises concerns about its impact on climate, particularly given the growth rate it has experienced in recent years. So what can be done in order to deliver cleaner flights to people?

In “Destination sustainable aviation”, EdEn and its members have made a careful assessment of aviation decarbonisation by bringing together the analyses and viewpoints of EU decision-makers, economic actors from the aviation sector, legal and technical experts on the concrete solutions that are currently available or are being developed in order to achieve the aviation sector’s energy transition.

Our conclusions are clear: decarbonising the aviation sector is possible but will not be easy. If the 2050 deadline is to be met, incentives and support must be provided at the EU level and internationally, to enable economic players to follow the timetable and move towards this goal.
